THEO HAZE

Studied under Shozo Shimamoto, formerly of the Gutai Art Association (GUTAI). The theme of GUTAI's concept is to "concretely express spiritual freedom" and to explore the roots of humanity. For the past 20 years he has dedicated himself to Tsugaru shamisen playing in many parts of the world and, like Enku, his work is driven by the inspiration he finds deep in the mountains. The cosmic spiritual beauty derived from Eastern thought is expressed in a world view that combines ink painting and graffiti.Inspired by ancient rituals and anthropology based on his own fieldwork, he also expresses other worlds in his photographic works and performance art. His favourite word is “Yugen”(ghostly).
