YOD Gallery is pleased to present Aya Murata's second solo exhibition, “4seasons”.
The history of the kneading technique, which Aya Murata creates under the theme of ‘vitality’, dates back to 1400 years ago. This technique involves mixing the colors of the porcelain and joining them together to create a regular pattern.
Separate the petals one by one so that the pattern appears on the cross section that a pattern appears on the cross-sectional surface are both elaborate and fluctuation, and the naturally occurring patterns have a certain vitality to them. What is important here is that the patterns are not superficially decorative, but reside in the material itself. The technique of mixing the colours of the clay one by one and joining them together to form a regular pattern can be seen as a symbol that the essence of life is not just appearance or decoration, but the power that comes from within.
We know that the patterns that insects have expressed in the course of their evolution to sustain their life have sometimes transcended their role and fascinated people, and have been used as cultural symbols as well as being popular motifs in the context of fashion and textiles.
This exhibition features works inspired by insects, such as ‘Dream of a Caterpillar’. The patterns, which are created for the purpose of living rather than dressing oneself up, can be said to represent the artist's ‘inner life force’, which is the very root of her beauty.
Each lively petal and tentacle-like line of blooming flowers appeals to us as if it were alive. This dynamic element reflects the process by which life constantly changes and grows while adapting to its environment, as the clay of various colors is kneaded and slowly takes shape.
Today, with the development of social networking and media, only visual beauty is emphasised. It is hoped that by coming into contact with the inner power of the artworks, viewers will have a moment to perceive the intrinsic appeal within themselves.
The artist will be at the gallery on:9 (Sat) and 16 (Sat) November. We hope you will take this opportunity to visit this exhibition.
