アンドレス・バリオキント
アンドレス・バリオキントはマニラで生まれ、10代を香港で過ごした。彼は1990年代後半にフィリピンに戻り、フィリピン大学絵画コースに入学。その後、サントトーマス大学美術工科大学で絵画への学びを深めた。
彼は、フィリピン、シンガポール、日本、イギリス、インドネシア、香港、台湾、韓国で個展やグループ展を数十回以上開催し、Metrobank Foundationの継続賞優秀賞(2009)や、など、さまざまな賞を受賞しきた。バリオキントの表現は、フィリピンの肖像画の正統性の上に成り立っている。伝統的な構図に則りながらも、大胆でセンセーショナルな肖像画は、人々を魅了してきた。
近年の作品は、超現実主義にシフトしている。アジアの様々な文化から着想を得て、彼は絶妙にイメージどうしを重ね合わせ、パターン化し、画面上に割り当てる。彼の作品は様々な解釈と意味を持ちあわせたダイナミックな配置を生み出し、国内外で批判的かつ商業的な注目を集めた。
